Talk about Easter in Agramon

I can't say that "Agramon's Easter is the best in Spain". But it has all the elements as every other city. Our robe's colour is violet with golden filigrees. It make us different from the rest of villages in Spain. The only problem is the few population who live there, though it's increasing nowadays.

Agramon is a small village near Hellin, and it has, as I said, all the elements about it: faith, devotion, penance, fervour, calvary, resurrection, crucifixion, burial, processions, Lay Brotherhoods, floats with sculptures, nazarenes, ......, and you can find mantilled widows with her ornamental combs.

While the procession arrives at the village square, the music band stops and any person can sing a dirge to the imagen. Everybody is quiet.

Of course, I can't finish this article without talking about the drum tradition. It´s very important for Agramoner@s because each village has its plays, which are exhibited only on this festivity.

This one isn't the best but for Agramoner@s is the best. To convince you, you only have to come and live it.

Easter in Agramón

Easter in Agramon begins with a procession on Palm Sunday.

  • Palm Sunday: This procession isn´t very big , but Palm Sunday is a special day. There are a lot of nazarenes who wear robes and pointed hoods, and they carry an olive branch. The music band plays the drums and trumpets; it gives a special atmosphere.

  • Maundy thursday: Easter continous. At night at 10pm the procession begins, there are a lot of people, they see the nazarenes, the sculputures, the drums... After the procession people go home to dress up with a purple robe and they play the drums all night.

  • Good Friday: In the morning people parade to the calvary with the sculputures, nazarenes..., the special sculputure on Good Friday is the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ. All thrones have a lot of flowers. It is a day with a lot of devotion. At night there is a burial procession. It is very serious and the virgin wears a black mantilla-ed widow, and nazarenes walk along the streets with Jesus Christ dead.

  • Holy Saturday: Holy Saturday is a day for children. All children play the drum in the afternoon with their parents. Holy Saturday is the last night in which the drums are played.

  • Easter Sunday: On Easter Sunday we represent the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. The Dolorosa Virgin wears a white mantilla-ed widow. She is very happy because her son is alive. When the Virgin and Jesus Christ meet, people don´t play the drum. After some seconds they begin playing the drum. It is a very special moment for me.

The typical food at Easter is: Mojete, empanadillas, roast lamb and chicken with potatoes.
